We’reinterested in using the MTConnect. One of the most important tags we need formthe machine is “Reason for Downtime” that the machine control does not know, like “Waiting for forklift”. Also, the machine must be inhibited fromrestarting if it is down without a known reason more than preset amount oftime. Can that be done via MTConnect?

As you mentioned, the machine does not know why it's down, especially if the reason is beyond the abilities of the control. Many reasons can be inferred by the states like an alarm state or if the machine is not in automatic mode when it should be running. The hints can also be derived from the program states like a warmup program running after a setup.

When the machine is down and not operating, additional information is required. We have added the functional mode to version 1.3 of the standard which will allow some common classifications.

Best to extend with an extra tag that matches you needs that are not met by functional mode.
