I am a newbie to MTConnect and have been playing around with it for the last month. I cannot seem to find any information on the development of Heidenhain adapters. Will Sobel briefly mentioned it in one of the tutorial videos.

The only option I see at this moment is to use Remotools' TNCcmd to pass commands to and read the data from there. I don't think that is the optimal solution.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Maybe checkout the adapter repository on github.com/mtconnect

Not sure if there is one there or not

Thanks

Hey there,

I would like to bring this post to life again.
In fact not for totally altruistic reasons, but to gain knowledge for my current research project...
and for anybody who prospectively will face a similar challenge in adding a MT-Connect based application within a Heidenhain setup.

I am currently trying to establish a data connection with a Heidenhain iTNC530 driving a Hermle C30 machining center. There are some really easy to follow tutorials, papers and really nice-looking UserInterfaces around here, but at this point can't find any hint on how to implement the Heidenhain DNC Libraryinto those files provided on github. Maybe I miss something fundamentally or is it a well-kept secret interwinded with the commercial side of this open-source Idea?

Would someone share his lessons learned regarding MTConnect and Heidenhain?
Something like a step-by-step guide on how to implement the adapter, like the one provided for FANUC (Mike Ellis)?

Best regards from Dortmund
KaLe

Hello, friends!

I'm trying to find solution to setup adapter, but I was in the beginning.
Please tell me whether you have achieved the result?
Have you found a working adapter?
Is the adopter needed for option #18?

Hey there,

well, let’s say: yes and no. Option 18 is essentially the SDK you’ll need to receive data from the iTNC - it’s a DNC-Library with some sample-files written in .net, C# or C++.
Contact your Heidenhain Support, you’ll need to buy the Option 18 and the SDK. That’s a first step.

Afterwards you have to decide whether an open-source-adapter is a necessity to you or you can continue with a closed-source-adapter from a commercial developer like; let’s say: http://www.systeminsights.com/and others.
They offer these MTConnect compatible adapters and support, so they already did the work, you might have to do on your own, if you need to know which functionsexactly call a specific state of a specific component within your HeidenhainiTNC.

Currently I have to say: the adapter-level is where open-source ends and itseems to be a whole lot of work to match these Heidenhain-specific calls withthose a working MTC-Adapter requires.
And it's also a question wedded to the aim of your application (concerning thelicence agreement, you'll accept by purchasing the option 18).

If there’ll be any major achievements or decisions within the next weeks, I’lllet you know.

Best regards from Dortmund, Germany to Russia
Karsten

I recently completed a prototype Heidenhain MTConnect adapter - I used a pair of commercial libraries from Adontec:
611020 SuperCom Heidenhain LSV2 Library
633 SuperCom Suite

I only implemented some of the most basic features (execution, controller mode, overrides), but so far I haven't needed the Heidenhain SDK or their Option 18, and Adontec officially says their library does not require Option 18.

It remains to be seen if I can read the tool-id, spindle-speed, alarm messages, etc.

I'd be happy to talk to anybody who has experience communicating with Heidenhain TNC's, or who is interested in MTConnect adapters for Heidenhain (or in general).
Because my work is commercial, my ability to collaborate is limited, or at least, complicated ;-) but it doesn't hurt to ask, or say hi.

spike0xff can you confirm which data is available for retrieval? The list of available functions in https://www.adontec.com/index.htm?GO=/superprod_e.htm#SUITE is very short.

Hi guys - sorry, I forgot to subscribe to this thread, so only noticed today that there were new comments.

I can say that I have not had much 'live' experience with talking to TNC's with my adapter, and this week I started working with a TNC 530, which is refusing to talk to me: It returns error 23 when I try to execute HN_LogIn(..., "DNC").
So maybe DNC is not enabled?
