I just noticed that Stack Exchange has a proposed Internet of Things community that MTConnect related question could easily fall into. If anyone here has a Stack Exchange account, I'd highly recommend logging into the Area51 community to support this new community.

There's also a new proposal for Manufacturing

I've had luck on Stack Exchange seeking machine tool information, although it is far from a robust community. Some OEMs have their control or system engineers posting there, which is the most useful part.

There's also recent activity in "Open Data" that is relevant.

Yeah, I just posted that answer and linked it in another question the other day Smile I think the Open Data community is still technically in beta, so the more people posting in there will at least keep it alive.

Are you already active on SE in general? Control engineers and CNC experts seem like they generally don't get on software-oriented forums, or if they do my Google searching is not turning up those threads. There is a lot of homebrew and DIY CNC support online via Instructables and similar, but so far that doesn't really translate to industrial controls.

Yes, I'm active on Stack Overflow, Open Data, and Code Review. There's not a whole lot of manufacturing-related content on SE, but I've seen a few question pop up in SO that are MTConnect related MTConnect related. In all honesty, the structure of Stack Exchange would be great for holding some manufacturing technology communities. The trick would just be getting non-programming people interested in visiting those parts of the site. It seems like sites such as Practical Machinist are still the goto for manufacturing.

I'm still rooting for the Internet of Things community to be passed on SE under Area 51. Smile
