I have 12 machines connecting to a VB client thru MTConnect Adapters and Agents. The Agents are running as a service on a Windows 10 server. Each Agent takes up about a GB of RAM. I have tried cutting the buffersize and assetbuffersize in half in the XML files and then restarting the agent, but the RAM usage is creeping up to 1GB again. Is there another tag in the XML file that I need to look at to get the RAM usage down to 512KB?

I tried cutting the buffersize from 20 to 10 at the top of the agent.cfg file and all 13 machine.cfg files. After gathering data all night the services for agents that I restarted are now only taking about 4MB of memory. This is great, but does anyone have any information on what the numbers mean for the buffersize parameter? It seems a value of 20 saves about 1000MB of memory and 10 about 4MB. Is there a chart that shows what the numbers mean?

Does anyone have information on the buffersize in the agent.cfg file or machine.cfg files for agent services on a PC? Am I on the right forum for this type of question? I'm starting to think that no one uses MTConnect in this manner because I can't find any information anywhere on the web.

BufferSize - The 2^X number of slots available in the circular buffer for samples, events, and conditions.

Default: 17 -> 2^17 = 131,072 slots.

so you took it from 2^20 = 1,048,576 to 2^10 = 1024 slots. 3 orders of magnitude ought to do it!
