I am attempting to reduce the vast amount of information on mtConnect down to something basic. I am on the IT side of things and have a co-worker helping me investigate possible use from an IT/Machine side of things.

What are the requirements of the machine to send the data? E.g. are there required manufacturer specific adapters and does the machine require a specific controller/feature to send out the data?

Bobby,

Can you tell me more about the specific machines that you are trying to collect data from? While MTConnect can provide a wide array of data types, not all machines support all of the available data. Each machine typically has an adapter and MTConnect Agent the manage the data for each machine. Depending on the capabilities of the adapter and the configuration of the Agent, you can get access to differing data sets. Also, you can manage the data provided by the machine through the polling requests that are initiated by your client application.

If you have more info on the machines and machine controllers, I can give you some more specific info.
